The body is one of God’s greatest gifts. I look at it the same way He does, as a temple. It houses our spirit and the Holy Ghost. It is sacred. “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are” (1 Corinthians 3:16 – 17)
I don’t want to objectify women, or see them as only a plaything that I can use or abuse to gratify my own selfish pleasure. I respect and honor women. I want to love, serve, edify, and encourage them. I am an ambassador of the Lord Jesus Christ. I do what He would do if He were here.
Sex is a Sacrament – It is a symbol of Godliness. If I use this power and desire righteously it will bring me unspeakable joy, if I use it unrighteously it will bring unspeakable pain. It will be something that will symbolize my covenant marriage. Love, devotion, loyalty, respect, trust, fidelity and righteousness will be our foundation. I am true to my covenants. God can trust me and rely upon me because I love Him so much.
When I see an attractive woman I will acknowledge to myself that she is attractive and appreciate her beauty without wanting to lust after her. I will focus on her personality rather than her body.I will look into her eyes rather than lustily at her body. I connect with others emotionally. Iepitomize love, compassion, sensitivity, and warmth. I search for ways to serve, encourage, and uplift others.
I am a Child of God. Women are my eternal sisters. I will not hurt, abuse, destroy, objectify women; I love, encourage, uplift, and serve them.
I am not going to tease myself or increase my appetite by lusting or looking at pornography.Going to Krispy Kreme donuts “just to look” when I’m fasting only makes the fasting more difficult. The same with looking at pornography – it frustrates, teases, and develops habits of objectifying women.
I will be especially watchful and will pray always when I am bored, lonely, angry, burned out, or stressed. I will practice in my mind what to do, so that when the temptation comes, I will choose automatically and righteously.
I will be thankful for all that I have and all that I am. I fill my heart with gratitude and count my many blessings throughout the day. I love the Lord with all my heart, might, mind, and strength –and I know He loves me. I will overcome the flesh and be strong, loyal, and true spiritually.
That which we persist in doing becomes easier for us to do, not that the thing itself has changed, but that our power to do is increased. If I continue to practice and answer temptation it will become easier to overcome and will become an automatic habit. Weak things will be made strong unto me. (See Ether 12:27)
“If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.” (Mark 9:23) “When a man works by faith he works by mental exertion instead of by physical force” (Joseph Smith, Lectures on Faith 7:3). I am constantly planting incredibly confident, faithful, hopeful, optimistic, loving, positive, thankful thoughts. I instantly weed out of my mind doubts, negativity, insecurity, pessimism, fear, worry, anger, lust. Sow a thought, reap an action; sow an action, reap a habit;sow a habit, reap a character; sow a character, reap a destiny” (Emerson, David O. McKay used to quote frequently). “A Double Minded man is unstable in all his ways” (James 1:8). I am singleminded – there is opposition in all things; I choose to think and do that which is right and good.
A noble and Godlike character is not a thing of favor or chance, but is the natural result of continued effort in right thinking, the effect of long-cherished association with Godlike thoughts.A man is literally what he thinks” (James Allen, As a Man Thinketh). . “How could a person possibly become what he is not thinking? Nor is any thought, when persistently entertained, too small to have an effect. The divinity that shapes our ends is indeed ourselves” (SpencerW. Kimball, Miracle of Forgiveness pp. 104-105). It all happens in my mind. Every thought and every word has an effect for good or ill. Thoughts and words are power – I think and speak magnificently!
I do not run from temptation, but I face it squarely
Everyone has a body. I am exaggerating the importance of nudity. Women have breasts it is natural. I look at female bodies as something normal – I de-emphasize it, I accept it for what it is –a temple.
I’ve got to quit lying to myself and see a body for what it really is, sex for what it really is, others for who they really are, and myself for who I really am.
Without love, trust, devotion, fidelity, spirituality and a sacred covenant bond sex is cold, empty, unsatisfying, and full of sorrow and grief.
Sex is sacred. It is what defines marital trust, union, and fidelity. With our Supreme Creator we become one in creating the most sacred society – our family. We, like God, can create children and an eternal posterity. It is no wonder the great liar would want to pervert this most holy and sacred experience.
When I feel overwhelmed by temptation I will relax and pray. I will face the temptation squarely and I will talk to the temptation through writing. I will not be overcome by evil, but I will overcome evil with good. I will not be afraid, but I will triumph through love. When faced with temptation – I will choose wholesome entertainment, to connect with others emotionally, serve others, or do good.
I will not entertain the devil or his legions. I will be true and not betray my God, my covenants,my wife, my children, myself. I will choose love.
Thou shalt love thy wife with all thy heart, and shalt cleave unto her and none else. And he that looketh upon a woman to lust after her shall deny the faith, and shall not have the Spirit; and if herepents not he shall be cast out. (D&C 42:22-23)
But I say unto you, that whosoever looketh on a woman, to lust after her, hath committed adultery already in his heart. (3 Nephi 12:28)
The LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart. (1 Samuel 16:7)
